Betta Fish Spotlight: A Betta Called Wanda
Allison Morris's female betta, Wanda, is a tiny, fiery spirit with many opinions to rattle off with her iPad and her daphnia in hand. She loves her log, her food, and her person--although her Instagram suggests she may not be a fan of Allison's fiance.
Wanda and Allison's story began on the coldest day of the year, when Allison drove Wanda home from her breeder's house. This was surely not an easy feat, as betta fish are tropical fish, and require temperatures of around 75 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit.
As their friendship progressed, Allison quickly learned that her favorite thing about Wanda was her personality because, "She loves people, and she'll wiggle along with you if you wiggle to her." (@abettacalledwanda).
Wanda's Instagram page describes her as a "...female betta who's personable, opinionated, and loves people." On it, Wanda uses her iPad to post pictures of herself and screenshots of her conversations with Allison. It is there that her followers learn of her love of daphnia, clean water, and her Number One Human.
When asked about any tips for you, the readers, Wanda and Allison say, "Make sure you have at least a 3 gallon tank, a good filter, and a heater" (Allison Morris). In addition, "They [bettas] also tend to live in the upper parts of their tanks so plants and a betta log are a must. They thrive if given a place to hide" (Allison Morris). At this point, Wanda added, "...quality time is a must, and bettas need iPads or iPhones) (Wanda). (In all honesty, while Wanda thinks the tech is required, it is by no means 100% necessary.)
Wanda is a very fun fish, whose Instagram page is fresh and entertaining. I had a great time talking to Allison, who was very nice and who had a great deal of good information to share about Wanda and betta fish in general. I would like to thank both Wanda and Allison for their time and permission to quote them and use their photos in this blog. I hope you, the readers, have enjoyed it!.
