Betta Fish Spotlight: Sha're

Sha're
First of all, she'd like you all to know it's pronounced Sha-RAY. She gets her name from the Stargate SG-1 character of the same name--the character also appears in the movie, but with a different name spelling. At any rate, we're here to talk about the fish, not the character.

Sha're's Stargate-themed tank
Sha're is a tiny, female veil tail betta. She lives in a ten gallon community tank with her friends the neon tetras, Ra the crab (named for the antagonist of the Stargate movie), and Lord Yu the amano shrimp (also a Stargate SG-1 based name). The tank itself is Stargate-themed.

Sha're loves her fish flakes, and she always eats them first, making the tetras wait for whatever falls their way after she's done. She likes to hide in the leaves, and if often seen patrolling her "territory" at the front of the tank, or otherwise resting on the rocks.

She's gotten into a few tussles with Ra, but it's nothing she can't handle; she has him all straightened out now, anyway. Now, they get along just fine.

A collage of Sha're
Sha're is very, as I like to call her, "Zoomy." She often will swim from one end to the other very quickly, and always does so with a little push of her fins as if saying to herself, "Zoom!" She goes, up down, and all around her tank in this manner, amusing me quite frequently.

She's a very heavy sleeper. Once, I woke up and checked on her to find her dead asleep on the bottom of the tank, totally out. I thought she was gone for sure! But then, after a couple of seconds and a little bit of tapping on my part, she jumped awake, zooming to the top of the tank for air! Thank goodness!!

All in all, Sha're is a fast, silly, feisty little fish with all the sass she needs to make it through life. She's my first female betta, and I love her dearly.
